Brent Ainsworth was hired as the County of Marin’s public information consultant in February 2013 after a 24-year career in local journalism. He started his career on the San Jose Mercury News sports staff during his final two years of journalism studies at San Jose State University. He served in sports and news roles at the Santa Cruz Sentinel for nine years, followed by 13 years in various reporting and editing positions at the Marin Independent Journal daily paper. Just prior to joining the County of Marin, he covered the city of Novato for Patch.com for the site’s first 2.5 years. After three years as a County of Marin consultant, he was hired as a public information specialist upon creation of that new job classification in 2016. Day to day, he is charged with improving all forms of public information from County sources such as news releases, social media, video PSAs, and employee media training.
